What do you do?

Rachel Waller has been working extensively in the fields of costume making and design for over thirty years, crossing the borders between Costume and Fashion.

Having worked in Theatre making costumes for National companies such as Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet for years, she made the decision to move into world of freelancing, and worked making costume for National Television companies such as STV and the BBC.

After focusing on design for a few years, Rachel decided to combine her two passions by setting up Rachel Waller Individual Designs in 2013.

Due to her love for Theatre, Rachel now combines her skills curated from her past Theatre, Television, and Film work in order to offer her knowledge and abilities to the public on a bespoke level exclusively tailored to them. This includes designing and making a variety of bridal dresses, prom dresses and mother of the bride or groom outfits; whatever the starring role demands!

Yet, Rachel also continues her work for the Theatre having recently made the children’s costumes for a Scottish Opera Production of La Boheme, worked  for Film by producing costumes for the Netflix production of The Outlaw King and made dresses for the Television series Peaky Blinders.

What can she do for you?

Rachel offers an exclusive service in the creation of one off designs, be it bespoke Bridal Gowns, Prom dresses, or concert wear your creation is individually produced to help you look perfect for your starring role.

Through consultation and collaboration, your dreams can be brought to life. Rachel’s knowledge and technical skills combine giving her the ability to create garments of the highest quality from superior fabrics.

Your bespoke garments will be made from an individual pattern, constructed specifically to your measurements, in the design of your choice using fabrics and trims I will individually source for you.

Regular consultations and fittings ensure your creation is sculpted perfectly to your form and will ensure you receive maximum satisfaction with the end product.

  • The process begins with a consultation appointment to discuss the desired product. This may be a dress you want me to design for you or the development of your own ideas and dreams. At this consultation shapes colours, fabrics and trims are discussed. These are the specifications and a sketch will be drawn up. I may have to source fabrics, colours and trims which would involve another consultation appointment.

  • When the design, (fabric and trims) are approved, a price can be worked out. If you agree the price 50% of the sum should be paid before work commences as fabric and trims will have to be ordered in. Your measurements are then taken so a pattern can be drafted to your agreed design. The approved fabric is cut to pattern and the garment is made up for first fitting. At this first fitting you have an input into the design process. You may want the neckline cut away more or sleeves shorter but the main purpose is for me to sculpt the fit. Being it your introduction to the garment this is very important and is when any decisions to change the appearance in any way should be made, whether it be adding to or taking away from the design specifications. Any following fittings will be to tweak or perfect fit and design.

  • The left over 50% balance of payment is made before you take the garment away happy with your creation. And with a garment sculpted perfectly to your body shape, you are guaranteed to turn heads.
